British great grand dad's charity swim after Knee replacement in India
Eighty year old British Great grand dad Ken Austin isn’t one to give up on life easily. Despite his age and incapacitation of being an above knee amputee on one side, he was determined enough to opt for a knee replacement in the other knee when it developed arthritis. He chose to travel to India rather than risk his life in an NHS hospital where doctors amputated his right thigh after surgeons severed an artery during a revision surgery. He underwent a successful left total knee replacement at Dr. Venkatachalam’s knee surgery centre last year. A few months later he recovered enough strength and flexibility. Despite being an above knee amputee due to a failed TKR in the NHS, Ken undertook a charity swim to raise money for orphaned children in Tamil-nadu India.
Knee surgery India at the Madras Joint replacement centre salutes Ken for his bravery and courage.
Here Ken is seen relaxing with friends in Greece after his swim.
